Vietnam plans to develop two renewable energy industry and service hubs by 2030 as part of its revised implementation strategy under the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).
The updated roadmap targets renewable energy accounting for about 47% of Vietnam’s total installed power capacity by 2030, while emissions from the power sector are expected to be capped at 170 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent.
The government also plans to introduce a comprehensive policy and regulatory framework by 2030 to attract investments in offshore wind, solar power and energy storage technologies.
Vietnam intends to collaborate with international partners to upgrade transmission infrastructure and develop a smart grid, enabling the integration of large-scale renewable energy projects into the national power system.
The revised plan also outlines a long-term strategy to expand clean energy deployment, with the country targeting up to 85% renewable energy share in total primary energy supply by 2050.
As part of the transition, Vietnam plans to gradually phase out ageing coal-fired power plants while strengthening energy security to meet rising electricity demand driven by economic growth.
The revised JETP implementation roadmap has been approved by Bui Thanh Son and aligns with the country’s national power development plan for the 2021–2030 period with a vision toward 2050.
