V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority has invited bids to develop a 2 MW green hydrogen hub and refueling station at its Tuticorin port in Tamil Nadu, as part of efforts to promote clean fuel adoption in the maritime sector.
The project, estimated at ₹67.85 crore, will involve setting up a hydrogen production facility with a 2 MW electrolyzer capacity and a minimum output of around 600 kg of hydrogen per day, according to tender documents.
The selected bidder will execute the project on a turnkey basis, covering design, engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning, followed by seven years of operation and maintenance, including a two-year guarantee period.
The project will also include the development of a hydrogen refueling station, equipped with a dispenser capable of delivering hydrogen at a rate of 3.6 kg per minute, aimed at supporting future hydrogen-powered transport and port operations.
The initiative is part of India’s broader push to scale up green hydrogen infrastructure and decarbonise hard-to-abate sectors such as shipping and heavy transport.
In addition to core infrastructure, the project scope includes civil works such as road development, control rooms, fencing and utility systems. The port authority will provide 22 kV power supply and water free of cost, helping reduce operational expenses.
Bidders must meet financial and technical eligibility criteria, including prior experience in executing at least 1 MW green hydrogen or refueling projects, and an average annual turnover of at least 30% of the project cost over the past three years.
The tender process allows for consortium participation of up to two partners. The deadline for bid submission is April 9, 2026, with bids scheduled to be opened on April 10.
The development comes as India accelerates investments in green hydrogen under its national clean energy strategy, with ports emerging as key hubs for future hydrogen production, storage and export infrastructure.
