Adani Wind Commissions 5 MW Next-Gen Turbine in Gujarat

Adani Wind has commissioned a 5-megawatt wind turbine prototype in Mundra, Gujarat, marking a step forward in India’s transition toward higher-capacity wind energy systems.

The new turbine features a 185-metre rotor diameter and 91.2-metre blades, among the largest deployed in the country. Designed for low to medium wind regimes, the platform offers a swept area of 26,600 square metres, enabling higher energy capture and improved efficiency from limited land resources.

The development reflects a broader shift in India’s wind sector toward larger and more efficient turbines, as developers aim to maximize output per installation. The platform has been developed in collaboration with WindtoEnergy in Germany and is expected to be included in the government’s Approved List of Models and Manufacturers in the coming months.

India’s wind manufacturing ecosystem has expanded significantly, with capacity rising from around 12 GW in 2022 to nearly 20 GW currently. The country now ranks among the top global markets, with cumulative installed wind capacity of approximately 55 GW and strong growth potential ahead.

Globally, wind installations reached a record 169 GW in 2025, with India emerging as the largest market outside China. The commissioning also aligns with Adani Wind’s plans to scale its manufacturing capacity and expand its footprint in international markets.
