India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has published updated figures showing 5,55,610 MTPA of firm and signed green hydrogen-equivalent offtake commitments by Indian companies as of October 2026. The ministry said 23 contracts have been signed since the National Green Hydrogen Mission began in 2023, including 18 new agreements in 2026 for more than 4 lakh MTPA.
According to India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, more than 70% of the signed offtake volume is earmarked for exports, while domestic demand is also being allocated through mission-linked programs for fertilizer production and refineries. The figures were published in India Leads Globally with Green Hydrogen Offtake Commitments Exceeding 5.5 Lakh MTPA Till October 2026.
Commitments Reach 555,610 MTPA, With 18 New Agreements Signed In 2026
The ministry said total green hydrogen-equivalent offtake commitments stood at 5,55,610 MTPA by October 2026. It said this equals about 11% of the National Green Hydrogen Mission’s production target.
For 2026 alone, the ministry reported 18 new offtake agreements covering more than 4 lakh MTPA. Across the full period since the mission’s launch in 2023, the total number of signed offtake contracts reached 23.
The ministry said these projects are expected to require aggregate capital investment of more than ₹90,000 crore, or about USD 9.5 billion. It also said Indian suppliers are offering green ammonia and green methanol at prices it described as highly competitive in European and Japanese markets.
The release also outlined end uses for green hydrogen derivatives. According to the ministry, green ammonia is being used as a bunkering fuel for shipping and for ammonia co-firing in thermal power plants, while green hydrogen derivatives are increasingly being adopted in fertilizer production and refining.
National Green Hydrogen Mission Sets 2030 Production Goal Of 5 MMTPA
The ministry said the National Green Hydrogen Mission was approved with an initial outlay of ₹19,744 crore through 2029-30. Its stated production goal is at least 5 Million Metric Tonnes per Annum of green hydrogen by 2030.
According to the ministry, the mission’s expected outcomes include 125 GW of renewable energy capacity additions, more than ₹8 lakh crore in total investments, more than 6 lakh full-time jobs, and avoidance of 50 MMT per year of CO2 emissions.
Using the ministry’s own figures, the 5,55,610 MTPA of signed commitments published for October 2026 represents a portion of the 5 MMTPA production objective set for 2030. The release links these commitments directly to both export supply arrangements and domestic procurement under mission programs.
Export Agreements Span Japan, Germany, South Korea And Sri Lanka
The ministry listed multiple cross-border supply arrangements involving green ammonia and green methanol.
ACME Group signed an offtake agreement with IHI of Japan for 4,88,000 MTPA of green ammonia. The same company also signed an agreement to supply 1,00,000 MTPA of green methanol to Mitsubishi Gas Chemical in Japan.
L&T and ITOCHU formed a special purpose vehicle for 3,00,000 TPA of green ammonia, with deliveries expected to begin in December 2029. Reliance Industries Limited entered into a long-term supply and purchase agreement with Samsung C&T Corporation of South Korea valued at more than USD 3 billion, with deliveries expected to start by 2028.
The ministry also said Agastya is in the process of offtake for 2,50,000 MTPA of green methanol to SAR in Sri Lanka. AM Green was selected as the sole winner of the Asian lot in the H2Global auction run by HINT.CO GmbH, securing a long-term purchase agreement for RFNBO ammonia supply to Germany. Under that agreement, HINT.CO will buy ammonia from AM Green for a minimum of EUR 585 million over 10 years, with first deliveries expected in 2029.
AM Green also signed a firm offtake agreement with Uniper in Germany for 2,50,000 MTPA of green ammonia, and a binding head of agreement with JERA in Japan for 70,000 MTPA of green ammonia. Jouno Joules signed an offtake agreement with Select Energy GmbH for 600 TPD, or about 2,19,000 MTPA, of green ammonia.

SIGHT Programme Includes 670,000 MTPA For Fertilizer Units And 30,000 MTPA For Refineries
Alongside export-linked supply contracts, the ministry reported domestic offtake allocations under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition, or SIGHT, programme.
According to the ministry, agreements have been signed under SIGHT for production and supply of 6,70,000 MTPA of green ammonia to 11 fertilizer units across India. It also said projects have been awarded under the same program for production and supply of 30,000 MTPA of green hydrogen to the refineries of IOCL, BPCL, HPCL and NRL.
The release also identifies several milestones that come after the signing stage. Deliveries under the Reliance Industries Limited agreement are expected to begin by 2028. First deliveries under the AM Green-HINT.CO arrangement are expected in 2029, and deliveries from the L&T-ITOCHU special purpose vehicle are expected to start in December 2029. At the mission level, the initial budget period runs through 2029-30, and the production target is set for 2030.
Taken together, the ministry’s update sets out the current signed offtake volume, the domestic and export split, the investment linked to these projects, and the delivery schedules already named in individual agreements.
